Lawn Care Frequently Asked Questions

    • Mow regularly (recommended fortnightly) and follow the “one-third rule” (never remove more than 1/3 of the grass blade in a single cut). Keep your mowing height consistent to reduce stress and help the lawn stay thick and healthy.

    • Water deeply in the morning. In hotter temperatures, aim for every second day. In cooler temperatures, a couple of deep waters per week is usually enough.

    • Stay on top of weeds early. Hand-pulling works well for small outbreaks (a good hand weeder makes this easier), and for larger persistent weeds, PureEdge can handle lawn and property spraying as part of ongoing maintenance.

    • Aeration is one of the best ways to revive a tired lawn and keep it healthy long-term. It helps relieve compaction so air, water, and nutrients can actually reach the roots where they matter.

    • Good lawns also need consistent nutrition. A complete fertiliser program, paired with soil-improving additives, supports stronger growth and helps the soil hold moisture more effectively.

    • Weed control is another big piece of the puzzle. Regularly checking for what’s popping up and treating early stops weeds from outcompeting your grass. Using the right products (and rotating where needed) helps prevent resistance and keeps weed pressure from choking the lawn.

    • Lawn and garden makeovers (renovation and repairs) can be the best option when a lawn has been neglected for a long time. Sometimes a proper reset is the quickest way to getting back to a healthy usable space.

    • For ongoing care, mow regularly and follow the “one-third rule" (don’t remove more than 1/3 of the grass blade in a single cut, and keep your mowing height consistent.

    • Water deeply in the early morning. In higher temperatures, aim for every second day; in cooler temperatures, a couple of deep waters per week is often enough.

  • In Queensland, you get a longer window for lawn improvement thanks to the warmer temperatures. A good rule of thumb is to begin when the combined daily low and high temperatures are consistently around 36ºC. For most properties, that means we typically recommend kicking things off from late August to early September, and the ideal makeover window generally runs through to January.

From February onward, we’re usually more cautious with full renovations because lawns are under heat stress and the seasonal shift isn’t far away. This means recovery can be slower and results can be limited. That said, we can still help with targeted makeover and recovery work later in the season; we’ll just tailor the approach to suit the conditions rather than going “all in.”

If you’re ready to refresh your outdoor space more broadly, our Garden Makeovers service is a great place to start. For the full list of what we offer, visit our Services page.

  • Our lawn mowing service is simple and consistent. Each mow includes the mow itself, line trimming/edging, removal of clippings as needed, and blowing paths and hard surfaces clean so the place looks finished, not half done.

If you want longer-lasting results, we can also bundle in weed control and fertilising as part of an ongoing maintenance plan.

  • Light, regular hedge trims every 6-8 weeks (depending on the species) help encourage dense, tidy growth.

For larger hedges, we typically work on a 12-week schedule.

Heavier work like major reductions or hard cut-backs is a different service altogether and we will assess these separately.

For more information on our services and what we offer for hedging, visit our Services page.

    • Give it time. Sometimes the best thing you can do is let the plant settle and grow.

    • Keep up with regular light trims. Just “tipping” the new growth can encourage it to thicken up.

    • Feed it with a quality landscape fertiliser and, if needed, a foliage feed to support healthy growth.

    • Don’t forget water. It’s the life source of all plants, just like it is for everything else.

For more information on our services and what we offer for hedging, visit our Services page.

  • We can usually handle tall hedges without any issues, as long as there’s enough clear space around the area for a safe setup and access.
